Choosing the Right Funeral Home

Things to Consider When Choosing a Funeral Home That’s Right For Your Needs

When it comes to choosing a funeral home, no one wants to consider the options until the time comes.

Unfortunately though, often, you will only have a day or two to find a funeral home and make arrangements before your loved one is laid to rest. This can cause a considerable amount of stress and anxiety, and as a result families are often pressured and rushed into making decisions that they may not be completely comfortable with.

At Compean Funeral Homes, we do things differently. We understand that it’s an extremely difficult time for you, and want to make the process as straightforward as possible. To help make the decision process a little easier, here are some things that you should look for when choosing a funeral home that’s right for your needs…

  • Services Offered It’s important to find a funeral home that provides the services that you are looking for. Some full-service funeral homes are able to cover just about every aspect of the funeral, from preparation of the body, visitation, memorial services, graveside services, and burial. Make sure you choose a funeral home that offers everything you will need.
  • Level of Comfort Planning a funeral is a difficult task, and it is important to choose a funeral home that helps you to feel as comfortable as possible. You need to know that the people organizing things with you will be able to work with you. Meet with the staff of the funeral home to determine if you will be able to trust them to follow through with your wishes. The funeral director should be attentive, compassionate, and professional –and you should not have to tolerate anything less than this. If you are not completely comfortable, don’t hesitate to go somewhere else.
  • Pricing Finally, make sure the prices you are being charged are reasonable. While you might not be concerned about money at the time, asking for an estimated cost of the funeral is important. Funeral homes are required by law, to make available a general price list that covers all of the fees for services offered. They are required to give you a copy to keep, if you request it. Funeral homes are also required to show you a price list for caskets, containers, and urns; however, they are not required to let you keep this. However, reputable funeral homes will be happy to provide you with a copy to take with you. Be sure to compare the prices with the services rendered to help you make the best decision for you and your family.

At Compean Funeral Home, Houston-based funeral directors, our goal is to help our clients to feel comfortable and confident in their decisions, and will work hard to provide you with all of the information that you need to make informed decisions, when planning a funeral or memorial service for your loved one.
